Helpful Hints for a Successful Band Camp

Stay Hydrated!

The Director and staff of CMHS Marching Knights holds the safety and welfare of the band members in the highest regard. Water is available at all times as is shade and cool/wet rags. Students who feel the need are allowed to step out of practice and seek shade and additional water as needed. In cases of emergency overheating, first aid protocol is always followed.

How to Avoid Heat Rash

You should wear loose fitting, breathable fabrics when marching.  Avoid denim and other materials that can rub together.

Should you get heat rash, seek out the first aid personnel and they can provide you with Gold Bond Powder or other treatment to ease your discomfort.

How to Avoid Blisters

Wear comfortable well-fitting shoes and synthetic blend or cotton blend socks.  If your socks get wet, change them as soon as possible.  Don't wear new shoes or shoes that are too small.  If you get a blister, don't open it.  You should cover blister with a band-aid to prevent further irritation. If redness gets worse or spreads, you should seek first-aid immediately.

Be Prepared For Weather

You can expect to be out in the sun, heat (unless excessively high), rain (not thunderstorms) and sometimes cool evening temperatures.
